Utopia (Part 1of 4)

Sir Thomas More coined a new word in the year 1516 for a book which he was just beginning to draft. His book and the new word defined an imagined community that has near-perfect qualities in its citizens. The book and the new word share the same name: UTOPIA.

The reader will agree to the fact that nobody is perfect; no one can claim to have attained perfect qualities. Why? Because humans are inherently erroneous. Old-timers have phrased it "To err is Human."

It was this inherent flaw in humans and the society that was created by them which made Sir Moore to imagine Utopia in which everyone and everything is perfect.

So what exactly are the characteristics of a Utopia? Many scholars, philosophers and great thinkers have put forth their views; the essence of their collective thoughts is given below:

A Utopia is possible when-

● Information, independent thought, and freedom are promoted.

● A figurehead or concept brings the citizens of the society together, but not treated as singular.

● Citizens are truly free to think independently.

● Citizens have no fear of the outside world.

● Citizens live in a harmonious state.

● The natural world is embraced and revered.

● Citizens embrace social and moral ideals.

But the key issue remains... Humans are flawed. So if nobody is perfect, how then can humans could dream of creating a perfect Society?

But before we even begin to think of creating one, let us as intellectuals try to understand the premise.

The ulterior motive behind creating a Movement is to accept the causes behind the shortcomings of the existing system, propose a set of standard procedures which would help to overcome the limitations and loopholes in the current system, and finally start a new thought process that would lay the foundations for a better and improved system- a new system that is uniformly fair to everybody irrespective of Seniority, Rank, Position, Caste or Creed.

Here is a humble request to all the readers who have been actively engaged with this article so far to answer the questions given below with all honesty:

Have you ever felt that your hard work is overlooked?

Have you ever felt that a colleague was promoted over you just because he/she was a relative of your Superiors or he/she was a Crony or a Sycophant?

Have you seen or heard about malpractices In your workplace and which has hampered your growth?

Have you seen or know people who waste everyone's work time and yet go unpunished?

As a manager and a highly-placed official, do you think that one or more members in your team do not carry out their daily official work as per their job profiles and yet are not reprimanded because of their "connections"?

As a top-level executive, do you think that in spite of good policies and sufficient infrastructure, skilled staff and favorable market conditions, your organization has not achieved consistent growth?

In spite of having unlimited budgets, do you think that some organisations and Public Sector Units perform below par as compared to their international rivals ?

If you have confidently, un-hesitantly and honestly answered with a YES to each of the above questions, then you are already on the way to assert that you want to be a part of a new and revolutionary school of thought, an unthought-of and unheard-of SYSTEM that has not only been conceptualized but has been tried and tested.

You will see in the upcoming posts exactly how this System will help you to overcome the shortcomings in work principles, workplace ethics, limitations, and most importantly pave the way for your protégés to follow your footprints which you will leave in the sands of time and leave behind a lasting legacy... Utopia!!
